Getting to 3%: An Open Letter to Lawmakers

Today, the Board of Directors for the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget released an open letter calling on lawmakers to adopt a fiscal goal of bringing budget deficits down to 3% of GDP – enough to stabilize the national debt. Such a goal has bipartisan support, including from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and others in the Trump Administration as well as the Obama Administration in the early 2010s, and from policy experts and business leaders such as Ray Dalio.

The letter can be found here and below.
