WATCH: Budgeting for the Next Generation
The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget will host a lunch and panel discussion on Budgeting for the Next Generation on Capitol Hill beginning at 12:15 pm. We'll be livestreaming a conversation on federal policy and budgeting for children with a panel of experts.
When it comes to the federal budget, children are clearly not a high priority. Despite higher rates of poverty and more economic potential than older generations, children receive a smaller share of federal dollars and are burdened with a large share of the national debt. Over the past year, the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget’s Budgeting for the Next Generation project has investigated how children fare in the federal budget, demonstrated that the process itself is biased against spending on children, and presented a number of potential options to improve this treatment.
Today's panelists include:
- Romina Boccia, Director of the Grover M. Herman Center for the Federal Budget, Heritage Foundation
- Marc Goldwein, Senior Vice President and Senior Policy Director, Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget
- Heather Hahn, Senior Fellow, Urban Institute and co-author of the annual Kids' Share report
- Bruce Lesley, President, First Focus
