Statement on the Passing of Senator Mike Enzi

Former Senator Mike Enzi from Wyoming passed away yesterday, July 26, 2021. He represented Wyoming in the United States Senate from 1997 to 2021 and served as chairman of the Senate Budget Committee from 2015 to 2021. The following is a statement from the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget:

Few public servants were as decent and honorable as Mike Enzi. In an atmosphere defined by hyper-partisanship, he was willing to cross the aisle to do the hard work and the right thing.

As chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, he understood the fiscal challenges facing our nation and worked tirelessly with Senator Sheldon Whitehouse to advance much needed reforms to our federal budget process. We were proud to work with him and his staff and to name him a fiscal hero in 2016 and 2020.

Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and former Wyoming constituents. His legacy is one of an elder statesman defined by public service, integrity, and a commitment to advancing solutions.
