More Than 64 Experts Join 64 Senators in Calling for President and Leadership to Act on Debt and Deficit

Today, a bipartisan group of 64 budget and economic experts co-signed a letter calling on President Obama and leadership from both chambers of Congress to work together to enact a comprehensive deficit reduction plan.

"As you continue to work on our current budget situation, we are writing to let you know that we join with the 64 Senators who recently wrote that comprehensive deficit reduction measures are imperative," the letter reads, "and to urge you to work together in support of a broad approach to solving the nation’s fiscal problems."

The signatories include former high ranking government officials as well as esteemed outside experts. This letter comes on the heels of similar calls from a bipartisan group 64 Senators and 10 former chairs of the Council of Economic Advisers, as well as a deficit reduction framework released by the Blue Dog Coalition.

“It’s time for our leaders to have an adult conversation on this country’s future,” said Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and signatory of the letter. “We don’t all agree on exactly what the final package should look like, but disagreement over particulars cannot be an excuse for inaction. We all agree that failure to act would be the worst policy of all.”
