Internship (Spring 2025)

Now accepting applications for Spring 2025. Internships are located at our offices in Washington, DC.

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget is looking for enthusiastic interns to join our team. We are a nonpartisan, non-profit organization committed to educating the public on issues with significant fiscal policy impact. Our bipartisan leadership comprises some of the nation's leading budget experts, which has included many past heads of the House and Senate Budget Committees, the Congressional Budget Office, the Office of Management and Budget, and the Government Accountability Office.

We welcome applications from highly motivated undergraduate or graduate students year-round, though interns typically work for one semester (Fall, Spring, or Summer). Interns may work full-time or part-time while attending classes. Interns work as a full member of their respective team, attending meetings and working alongside full-time staff members. All interns will be paid the DC minimum wage.

This internship is located at our offices in Washington, DC. We are currently working in a hybrid environment; interns will be expected to work in person on days when the staff are working in the office.

Below are descriptions of the intern responsibilities for each team. Applicants should specify in their email subject line and cover letter which team they would like to work with. There will also be opportunities for interns to work with other departments on crossover projects.

The  Policy  team researches and publishes original research and analysis on fiscal issues. Responsibilities will include contributing to publications on the website, such as our blog The Bottom Line; conducting research related to team-specific needs on topics like taxes and entitlement programs; attending events in the DC policy community; and assisting other team members on policy-centric projects. An interest in fiscal policy is vital to success in this position. Policy team interns will often collaborate with the Legislative team.

The  Legislative  team conducts outreach to policymakers and their staff, working with them to advance fiscally responsible policies. Responsibilities will include watching committee hearings; tracking House and Senate floor activity; researching policymakers’ positions; drafting blogs, memos, outreach to Capitol Hill, and summaries of legislation; and scheduling meetings, attending meetings, and taking notes. Previous experience on Capitol Hill is a plus but not required. Legislative interns will often collaborate with the Policy team.

The Development and Events team works to advance the Committee's public visibility and message though fundraising, putting on public events, and collaborating with influential voices in the political, policy, and business spaces. Responsibilities will include tracking influential voices speaking on issues related to national debt, background research on potential donors, assisting in event planning details, helping to prepare for Committee's signature events, and helping to organize speaking events featuring Committee staff.
