MacGuineas: Neither Party Is Being Fiscally Responsible

The New York Times today had another round of expert debate on President Obama's budget. CRFB President Maya MacGuineas was featured.

In her piece, MacGuineas argues that the mantle of fiscal responsibility is "still up for grabs" with both parties still stuck in the symbolic cuts without proposing any real deficit reduction measures. Calling on both parties, MacGuineas notes that President Obama should have used the political cover of the Fiscal Commission to work on entitlement reform while noting that Republicans are too focused on a very small portion of the budget while refusing to include revenue in any proposal.

Our fiscal house is in crisis and the President's Budget was only a small step forward that was overall rather lackluster. Hopefully MacGuineas's message gets out and we as a country fix our fiscal problems.
