Project Manager, Public Engagement

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (Committee) is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization devoted to educating policymakers, the media and citizens about the fiscal challenges facing the country, as well as the possible solutions. The Committee is made up of some of the nation's leading budget experts including many of the past Chairmen and Directors of the Budget Committees, the Congressional Budget Office, the Office of Management and Budget, and the Government Accountability Office.

Position Summary:

The Committee is looking for a dynamic and highly motivated Project Manager, Public Engagement to join our team. Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Staff, this position will support the policy, legislative outreach, communications, and engagement teams on a variety of organizational engagement priorities. The Project Manager, Public Engagement will execute project goals and determine how success will be measured and tracked.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with leadership to develop project strategy, and oversee management of day-to-day project activities, including maintaining project timelines and overseeing deliverables
  • Manage the Committee’s digital tools, including maintenance, promotion, and public engagement outreach
  • Lead the planning, coordination, and communication of virtual and in-person events
  • Research and interface with project stakeholders, including but not limited to academics and advocates
  • Exercise judgement to prioritize opportunities, prepare background materials and presentations and other project-supporting material
  • Manage internal tracking systems to ensure projects are executed according to the guidelines set
  • Support other organizational projects of the Committee as needed and assigned


Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • An interest and background in the mission of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines
  • Ability to build strong and sustained relationships with a diverse range of both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience organizing both small- and large-scale events
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Previous research and project management experience preferred
  • 3 to 5 years of professional experience a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
