Communications Specialist

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (Committee) is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization devoted to educating policymakers, the media and citizens about the fiscal challenges facing the country, as well as the possible solutions. The Committee is made up of some of the nation's leading budget experts including many of the past Chairmen and Directors of the Budget Committees, the Congressional Budget Office, the Office of Management and Budget, and the Government Accountability Office.

The Communications Specialist position will support the Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Media Relations in a variety of roles, including managing external organizational send outs, responding to press requests, managing event communications, conducting research, and working with all departments on the maintenance of contact records. This is not your typical press job. Candidates must possess an eagerness to take on new projects and turn them around quickly, with a strong attention to detail.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversees organization send outs through Constant Contact
  • Assists the Director of Media Relations in responding to media inquiries and prepping organizational leadership for interviews
  • Maintains database results by setting and enforcing standards and controls
  • Manages event pages and RSVPs through the database, and leading on-site registration for events
  • Works with the Director of Media Relations on press releases and drafting op-eds
  • Assists on various communications and research projects as needed

Qualifications

  • BA or BS in communications, English, or journalism
  • Strong writing and editing skills with an attention to detail
  • Previous experience with Constant Contact a plus
  • Interest in fiscal policy, budgetary, and economic issues
  • A great attitude, with an ability to multitask in a fast-paced communications environment
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
