Assistant Director, Engagement

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (Committee) is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization devoted to educating policymakers, the media and citizens about the fiscal challenges facing the country, as well as the possible solutions. The Committee is made up of some of the nation's leading budget experts including many of the past Chairmen and Directors of the Budget Committees, the Congressional Budget Office, the Office of Management and Budget, and the Government Accountability Office.

Position Summary

The Committee is looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our public engagement team.  Reporting to the Engagement and Coalitions Director, the Assistant Director will expand efforts to educate and engage the public on issues with a significant fiscal impact. Specifically, the Assistant Director will manage the organization’s interactive tools, assist with the management of virtual and in-person events, and build relationships with external groups and stakeholders.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Drive the promotion and engagement strategy for the Committee’s interactive tools
  • Oversee the maintenance of interactive tools, and assist in development of new online interactive resources designed to educate the public about the federal budget
  • Analyze metrics for interactive tools to measure impact, test new strategies, and make data-informed decisions for various public engagement initiatives
  • Lead the planning, coordination, and communication of virtual events, and work with internal partners across the organization on the planning and execution of in-person events
  • Assist the Engagement and Coalitions Director in building relationships and coalitions with outside stakeholders and organizations
  • Represent the Committee with external groups and stakeholders, including but not limited to academics, grassroots stakeholders, and other policy advocates
  • Support other projects of the Committee as needed and assigned


Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Ability to build strong and sustained relationships with a diverse range of both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience organizing both small- and large-scale events
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with excellent attention to detail
  • An interest and background in the mission of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget
  • 5 to 7 years of professional experience, Hill and/or previous grassroots campaign experience a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
