Program Analyst

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (Committee) is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization devoted to educating policymakers, the media and citizens about the fiscal challenges facing the country, as well as the possible solutions. The Committee is made up of some of the nation's leading budget experts including many of the past Chairmen and Directors of the Budget Committees, the Congressional Budget Office, the Office of Management and Budget, the Government Accountability Office, and the Federal Reserve Board.

In addition to conducting analysis of the nation’s fiscal situation, the Committee‘s Fiscal Institute also runs a series of policy-focused initiatives and projects on a wide variety of fiscal, economic, and political topics. The Fiscal Institute’s purpose is to generate, in a depoliticized environment, a variety of creative, new and academically sound ideas and to share them with a wide and diverse audience. The projects undertaken by the Fiscal Institute are intended to be more long-term and forward-thinking, and to generate new research, policy ideas, forums and networks in order to help to improve our economic and political systems.

Position Summary

The Program Analyst will report to the Chief of Staff & Director of Strategic Initiatives and be responsible for managing the development and execution of various projects and initiatives. This will include conducting public policy research and interfacing with project stakeholders, taking a lead role in planning and managing project events, as well as administrative functions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conducting public policy research and analysis
  • Interfacing with project stakeholders, including but not limited to reform thought leaders, academics, reform advocates and funders
  • Working with leadership to develop project strategy, and oversee management of day to day project activities, including maintaining project timelines and deliverables
  • Serving as lead staff member responsible for organizing project events with relevant stakeholders, including a large scale conference
  • Exercising judgement to prioritize opportunities, preparing background materials and presentations and other project supporting material, and serving as external project spokesperson as needed
  • Managing up and across functional teams to achieve project goals and objectives


Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Strong writing skills - able to write concisely and effectively for a diverse range of audiences
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Experience organizing large scale events
  • Excellent communicator, both verbal and written
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience
