Communications Assistant

Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget is a bipartisan, non-profit organization committed to educating the public about issues that have significant fiscal policy impact. The Committee is made up of some of the nation's leading budget experts including many of the past Chairmen and Directors of the Budget Committees, the Congressional Budget Office, the Office of Management and Budget, the Government Accountability Office, and the Federal Reserve Board.
The Position
This is a junior communications position in a fast-moving, policy-driven environment with daily media attention. The Communications Assistant will support the Press Secretary and the policy team in a variety of roles including research, writing and editing, video editing, and social media. 
This is not your typical press job. You will have the opportunity to pitch ideas directly to management and follow through on creative projects. An idea in the morning may end up in print by the afternoon. You will have the opportunity to grow and work alongside other team members directly in a friendly and collaborative environment. Candidates must possess an eagerness to take on new projects and turn them around quickly. We are a high-profile organization, and our work is featured regularly in print and on television, and it is seen by our nation’s top leaders.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Draft, edit, and assist in producing blogs, one-pagers, and other policy materials.
  • Write op-eds, media briefs, and other traditional press materials.
  • Record and edit video for use on our website, in stakeholder outreach, and on social media.
  • Assist in developing social media content including blog posts, tweets, and video.
  • Review the media every day for relevant articles about CRFB and its issues; circulate an overview to the CRFB president and staff.
  • Assist on various communications projects as needed.
  • Enrollment in or recent completion of an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in communications, English, or journalism.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Experience with and interest in video editing and social media.
  • Interest in fiscal policy, budgetary, and economic issues.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced communications environment.
  • A flexible and enthusiastic team player.
