MacGuineas Explains the President's "Skinny Budget" and the Debt Ceiling on NBC and Fox

CRFB President Maya MacGuineas appeared on NBC and Fox News yesterday to discuss President Trump's new "skinny budget" and the debt limit.

On Nightly News with Lester Holt (NBC), MacGuineas explained that the President's skinny budget does nothing to improve the unsustainable fiscal picture. It is good that the President pays for his proposed increases to defense with equivalent offsets in the next fiscal year, but this proposal provides "too little information and too few details to evaluate the budget." On Special Report with Bret Baier on Fox News, MacGuineas discussed the politicization of the debt ceiling. She explained, "The United States needs to continue to pay the bills, and at the same time can come up with a plan to ensure we can afford bills in the future. We must use this moment not to jeopardize the credit of the United States but instead to begin to get our fiscal house in order. to avoid default and improve our fiscal future." Watch the clip.
