Dave McCurdy: Horn leading the way on fixing nation's budget

Dave McCurdy is a former Democratic member of Congress representing Oklahoma’s 4th District and member of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. He recently wrote an opinion piece for The Oklahoman, an excerpt of which is below.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created a steep, severe economic crisis that no one could have predicted. But as Congress debates how much more aid might be required on top of the $3.6 trillion it has already authorized, it would be easy to assume that lawmakers aren’t bothering to think about how to eventually tackle our national debt.

That is not the case. Last month, U.S. Rep. Kendra Horn, D-Oklahoma City, joined 59 other members in signing a bipartisan letter to leaders in the House of Representatives calling for some common-sense proposals that would hold Congress more accountable for the country’s finances and encourage responsible budgeting.
