Janet Yellen

Janet Yellen is a distinguished fellow in residence with the Economic Studies Program at the Brookings Institution. She previously served as chair of the Federal Reserve System under Presidents Barack Obama and Donald J. Trump. Prior to that, she served as vice chair of Federal Reserve Board of Governors from 2010 to 2014, as president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco from 2004 to 2010. She also served as chair of the Council of Economic Advisers from 1997 to 1999 under President Bill Clinton, and was appointed a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors from 1994 to 1997. She graduated summa cum laude from Brown University with a degree in economics in 1967, and received her Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University in 1971.
